Stockholders is a feature length film starring actor Kristian Messere, who plays a rookie state police officer named Steff, who is stuck in a painfully mundane career. Things start looking up when Steff receives his first field position. He is to investigate an underground criminal ring, that of a wealthy Russian named Sasha, played by Rowland Pidlubny. Steff gains Sasha’s trust while participating in several low level crimes. During which, Steff develops an intimate relationship with Sasha’s young bride Vivica, played by actress Iva Kapsikova. The state police now turn their attention towards Steff, suspecting him of joining the enemy. And thus this deadly love triangle ensues…

Stockholders was first conceptualized by Messere, who wrote the feature length screenplay and is executive producer on the production. When asked where his inspiration came from, Messere explained “We live in a very difficult economic time, particularly for up and coming filmmakers. That’s what makes this film relatable and exciting for the audience. No one was going to hand me an opportunity. I had to go out and make one. And that’s exactly what our protagonist Steff must do to achieve success”. Most industry veterans are shocked when they find out that Kristian is only 25 years old and has already written, produced and starred in his own feature film (shot on the Red One camera).

The film is Directed by executive producer Mike Kam, who is known in the industry for his storytelling and breathtaking cinematography. Kam also founded One Leaf Productions along with Producer and business partner Baurzhan Dosmagambetov. It was Kam who led a talented team of professional filmmakers who all volunteered their time because they believed in film. Kristian Messere shed some light on the quality of filmaking: “The productions value is like nothing I’ve seen. It looks like a million dollars, but was shot extremely economically. That’s what’s so exciting about this new indie film wave going on! If you’re talented and have a worthwhile story to tell… it will happen”.

The buzz surrounding Stockholders has also brought considerable attention to Rowland Pidlubny, the mysterious actor who stars in the production as Sasha, the enigmatic underground crimelord. Along with Pidlubny’s talent and charisma as a leading man in front of the camera, his inventiveness as the production designer and a producer on the production created a menacing world artistically. “I envisioned the atmosphere of Kristian’s screenplay ‘Stockholders’ as an initiation into a secret world that became more dangerous as each layer was unrobed. There is meaning behind the ‘symbology’, colour and texture of the scenes, illuminating the audience to feel the emotions along with the characters. Director Mike Kam inspired and encouraged me with his creative energy.” When asked about working with Pidlubny, Messere simply stated, “no one else could have played this role”. In addition to starring opposite one another, the duo also partnered for casting all of the actors in the film.

In terms of crew, some faces are new and others are familiar. Such as Director of Photography Guy Paterson who has been involved with major film and television series for over twenty five years. The amount of detail and care in Paterson’s work, makes for an absolutely eyebrow raising cinematic experience.

Stockholders is slated to start hitting the festival circuit during the Fall of 2012-2013. For more information you can look up Stockholders on imdb.com or check out their website at http://www.stockholdersmovie.com
